Release requirements — read this first
- Current vehicle registration only. The VIN must match. Titles, bills of sale, and insurance cards are not accepted as proof of ownership.
- Government-issued photo ID, in addition to the registration.
- Cash only for impound releases. Tow, storage, and any permitted fees are payable in cash at the lot. No cards, no checks, no electronic payments. (Roadside and towing calls are different — you can pay the driver by card on scene.)
- Private-property impounds only. We do not tow for police and cannot process law-enforcement release authorizations.
Before you drive out hereCall (502) 337-7306 first and confirm we actually have your vehicle, what the balance is, and that your paperwork will be accepted. The lot is at 464 Bells Mill Rd, Shepherdsville, KY 40165 — it is not a short trip to make twice.
Coming from out of town
Call before you travel. We'll confirm the vehicle is here, tell you the exact balance including storage to date, and check that the documents you're bringing will be accepted. If you're flying in or driving a long way, that phone call is the whole difference between a successful trip and a wasted one.
- Confirm the balance the same day you travel — storage accrues daily.
- Confirm posted hours before you set out, including whether the day you're arriving is a normal operating day.
- Bring cash. There is no card payment at the lot — that's impound releases only; roadside and towing calls can be paid by card on scene.
- If the vehicle isn't driveable or the tags are invalid, arrange the onward tow before you arrive.
Sending someone on your behalf
- Written authorization from the titled owner, naming the person collecting the vehicle.
- A copy of the titled owner's government-issued photo ID.
- The collector's own government-issued photo ID.
- The vehicle's current registration, with a matching VIN.
- The full balance in cash.
Personal property in the vehicle
No personal property is released before the vehicle itself is released. For safety, liability, and chain-of-custody reasons we do not allow access to the vehicle or the lot to remove belongings first. That includes wallets, tools, electronics, clothing, child seats, work equipment, mail, and packages.
One exception: prescription medicationClearly labeled prescription medication can be retrieved by our staff during posted hours, when the photo ID of the titled owner matches the name on the prescription label. Loose or unlabeled pills are not released, and neither are over-the-counter items, devices, or accessories. The retrieval is photographed and logged.
If the vehicle can't be driven away
A vehicle with an expired registration, an invalid or fake temporary tag, no valid metal plate, or a mechanical problem cannot be driven off the lot. You can still release it — you'll just need to have a tow arranged to move it. We can quote that, or you're welcome to use another company.
